Dale Earnhardt Jr. scores a win, but it's in a go-kart
Dale Earnhardt Jr. already has one victory under his belt this week at Infineon Raceway, but the driver he beat has a pretty good story to tell his friends. Earnhardt Jr. won a five-lap race on Wednesday against Andrew Wolocatiuk, who is an 11-year-old from Petaluma, Calif. They raced in go-karts around a 16-turn, three-quarter-mile karting track on the grounds of the road course where Earnhardt Jr. will drive in Sunday's Dodge 350 Nextel Cup race.
"I didn't realize what a cool guy he was but he was great," said Wolocatiuk, a regular competitor in the Jim Russell Karting Series at the track.
Wolocatiuk had a 12-horsepower kart, while Earnhardt Jr. had a kart with 15 horsepower. Factoring in their respective weights, that was designed to even things out.
Wolocatiuk led the first lap, but Earnhardt Jr. came back to win by about three seconds. He gave Wolocatiuk his racing gloves as a souvenir following their race.
