SONOMA, Calif. - Speedway Motorsports Inc. chairman Bruton Smith said Friday that changes will be made to the racing surface at Lowe's Motor Speedway before October's UAW-GM 500, but was not specific about what those would be. "We're going to do a lot of things to the surface at Charlotte, and it will absolutely be ready in October," Smith said. "We're making some decisions and they're going to be the right ones."
The track had some of the major bumps removed in a levigating process before May's races, and the results led to some criticism after the Coca-Cola 600 featured a Nextel Cup Series record 22 yellow flags.
Smith would not say how much he expects to spend on whatever changes he makes before the October race.
"I am not worried about the cost, I just want to make sure it's right," he said. "I think you will like the changes."
