JOLIET, Ill. – Kevin Harvick had barely made it to Victory Lane following his win in Saturday's USG Durock 300 at Chicagoland Speedway when runner-up Greg Biffle began his verbal assault on the race winner.
"I think Kevin Harvick is a chicken. I think he's a punk and I wish he was sitting right here beside me," Biffle said in the track's infield media center after the race. "If you want to know how I really feel, I'd get points taken away."
Biffle complained that Harvick blocked him on the track to keep him a lap down, and purposely remained behind another car to prevent Biffle from gaining the free pass to the first car a lap down when a caution came out.
Harvick, whose victory was helped in part by a bad late-race pit stop and penalty by pole winner Ryan Newman, was incensed by Biffle's comments.
"Sounds to me like he's showing a lot of prima donna attitude and he needs to go sit in his motorhome with his girlfriend because he's got a lot more to lose than I do," Harvick said.
"If he wants to step outside and take care of it, we can, but I didn't know there was an issue. As far as I'm concerned he can sit out there and whine all he wants."
The win was Harvick's second Busch victory of the season and the 15th of his career. It's his first victory at Chicagoland, where he also owns two Nextel Cup victories.
Newman finished third, Carl Edwards fourth and Mark Martin fifth as Cup drivers claimed the top-five positions. Series points leader Martin Truex Jr. finished seventh and leads Clint Bowyer by 72 points.
Newman led a race-high 118 of 200 laps, but on a late pit stop he had a loose lug nut and was called back for a pass-thru penalty for having too many men over the wall during a pit stop. The mistake put him far back in the field.
Biffle did not claim Harvick had broken any rule, but appeared to be more upset with what he considered some unsportsmanlike moves on Harvick's part.
"What he did out there on the race track there today is simply when you are trying to think about someone else's race beside your race, you got problems," he said.
"Worry about winning the race, don't worry about the guy finishing second."
About the issues Biffle mentioned, Harvick said: "I didn't even think about that stuff. He just needs to quit whining about it and just go back and race.
"My car was loose at that point (when riding behind Reed Sorenson) and I'm not going to sit up here and listen to something I didn't even know was an issue during the race."
