DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Carl Edwards was furious with NASCAR officials Sunday after being penalized three times in the Budweiser Shootout. Edwards was flagged twice for driving below the yellow line and once for speeding as he entered pit road. He finished 16th and a lap down in the 21-car field. He was most infuriated after the second yellow-line penalty and initially refused to drive through the pits for his punishment. "That's the most ignorant call," Edwards said. "I came off Turn 4 and everybody was checking up. We weren't planning on pitting for 10 laps. I guess I went under the yellow line, but I lost all positions, almost lost the draft and they black-flagged me. I do not understand that and I couldn't be more frustrated. "I can't believe the ignorance. It's amazing." Edwards drove below the yellow line the second time to avoid two cars that were slowing to turn onto pit road. "They have enough people up there," Edwards said. "They should be able to determine what's right and what's wrong. Give me a break. You can't just run a team like that into the ground for no reason." Edwards recanted some after reviewing the tape with NASCAR officials, saying he understood the governing body's point of view. www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlines/cup/02/12/bc.car.nascar.daytonano.ap/index.html
