Fifteen spots up for bids to ride with NASCAR Nextel Cup star in Speedway Children’s Charities “Ride of a Lifetime” online auction
BRISTOL, Tenn. -- If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like for NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers to ride around in front of nearly 160,000 fans at Bristol Motor Speedway, here’s your chance to find out.
The “Ride of a Lifetime” online auction returns for the Food City 500 and 15 lucky individuals will get the opportunity to take a ride with their favorite driver during pre-race introductions on March 26, courtesy of Chevrolet and Speedway Children’s Charities. Proceeds benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.
The online auction, which takes place on the Speedway’s web site at www.bristolmotorspeedway.com, allows fans to bid for a ride with one of 15 NASCAR superstars prior to the start of the sold-out Food City 500. Winning bidders will climb into the bed of a Chevrolet pickup truck with their driver and make one lap around “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile.”
“The auction has been a tremendous success over the past several years, raising about $60,000 each year,” said Claudia Byrd, chairperson of the charity’s Bristol Chapter. “This fundraiser provides an excellent way to give race fans the chance to live a dream and more importantly, it generates funds that will impact the lives of children in this region for years to come.”
In addition to the ride of a lifetime, winning bidders will have the opportunity to purchase two tickets to the Food City 500. Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jamie McMurray, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Elliott Sadler, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte and Kyle Petty make up the list of drivers on the auction block.
The online auction goes live at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 6. Bidding will continue through Monday, March 20. Participants bidding in the online auction must be at least 18 years of age. Although two Food City 500 tickets may be purchased by the high bidder, only ONE person may ride with a driver.
The winning bidder may elect to give up his or her ride to a family member or friend. This will be permitted with the stipulation that the person riding is at least 12 years old. Fans wishing to participate but lack Internet access may do so by mailing bids to:
