CONCORD, N.C. - Carl Edwards, picked to win the Nextel All-Star Challenge by Lowe's Motor Speedway president Humpy Wheeler, has pledged to donate $100,000 of his winnings to Speedway Children's Charities should he win Saturday night's race.
"Officials of organizations such as ours would probably do back-flips to get that kind of help from a single source," said retired Maj. Gen. Thomas A. Sadler, executive director of SCC.
"We'll let Carl do the back-flips, but I can tell you that we would certainly be grateful and appreciative of his generosity should he be fortunate enough to win the All-Star race."
The 26-year-old Roush Racing driver isn't the only one pledging financial support to SCC programs. Bruton Smith, chairman of the board of Speedway Motorsports Inc. has said he will match the $100,000 donation should Edwards win.
Speedway Children's Charities provides funds to organizations that meet the direct needs of children.
