Stewart and McMurray checked out at hospital, released after hard crashes in NASCAR Busch Series race
CONCORD, N.C. - Reigning Nextel Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and driver Jamie McMurray were taken to Carolinas Medical Center-University for further evaluation after separate accidents early in Saturday night's Carquest 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Both drivers were examined and released before 10 p.m.
McMurray slammed into the Turn-4 wall on Lap 3 of the 200-lap race, apparently after cutting a right-front tire.
Seven laps later, Stewart's No. 33 Chevrolet slammed the wall in almost this same area, although a broken track bar appeared the culprit.
When Stewart exited his car, he appeared to favor his right arm and shoulder.
In an interview before leaving for the hospital, Stewart said, "I have one spot on my right shoulder blade that is really sore, so I'm going to get some X-rays.
"I don't know what happened. I know I ran over some debris from Jamie's accident, but I thought we got through it OK."
McMurray was taken for a precautionary follow-up due to the severity of his car's impact.
"That hurt," he said. "It was probably one of the biggest hits I've ever taken."
