CONCORD, N.C. -- Jeff Gordon suffered another one of the mysterious front suspension failures on Lap 361, sending his Chevrolet hard into the wall in Turn 3. It ended his night in the 36th spot.
"I don't know what happened," Gordon said. "I had the brakes go out just prior [to hitting the wall], so we looked at it on the pit stop. The vibration went away and I thought it was too good to be true. Then I went into Turn 3 and I don't know -- something in the right-front broke."
Gordon said he was OK after the crash. "Thank goodness for the soft walls," he said. "It didn't hurt."
He did, however, take a shot at the hard tires.
"I can't believe that this is the kind of tire we have to race on," he said. "Goodyear could do better than this and we could put on a better race than this. But that [his accident] certainly wasn't the tire's problem."
