ST. LOUIS -- "Seems like ever since there's been a NASCAR, there's been an Earnhardt racing in it," the ad's narrator begins, reminiscing about a bygone era.
Budweiser honors the Earnhardt family's three generations of NASCAR success this Father's Day with a "NASCAR History" ad showcasing original imagery representing more than 50 years of the family's racing legacy and Budweiser's longtime support for auto racing. The 60-second ad will debut Friday on Budweiser.com, and will premiere on national television during Sunday's broadcast of the 3M Performance 400 from Michigan International Speedway at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
The spot melds black and white images of six-time NASCAR Sportsman Series champion Ralph Earnhardt racing a cream-colored 1955 Chevrolet, followed by the contrasting black No. 3 Goodwrench car of The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt, a seven-time NASCAR series champion. Finally, the ad brings into the fold the No. 8 Budweiser car driven by NASCAR's only third-generation champion, Dale Earnhardt Jr., seamlessly relating how the Earnhardts, NASCAR and Budweiser have come a long way together over the past 50 years.
"Earnhardt and Budweiser are two of the most recognized names in auto racing, and we have enjoyed a long, successful relationship with the Earnhardt family," said Tony Ponturo, vice president of global media and sports marketing, Anheuser-Busch Inc. "The Earnhardts' fan following is unlike any other family in NASCAR, and we think fans will appreciate seeing them together again on Father's Day."
In addition to the legacy ad, Dale Earnhardt Inc., Dale Jr. and Budweiser will honor Ralph and Dale with a commemorative Father's Day paint scheme for the No. 8 Budweiser car. The predominantly cream-colored paint scheme is based upon the No. 8 cars driven by Ralph and Dale during their NASCAR careers, while the Budweiser bow tie logos are vintage 1974 marks commemorating Dale Earnhardt's NASCAR debut and the year Dale Jr. was born.
The car is the second DEI paint scheme this season to honor the legacy of a member of the Earnhardt family. Previously, Dale Jr. raced a black and silver No. 8 Budweiser car at Talladega on April 30 to celebrate his late father's induction into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. signed with Budweiser in 1999 following two successive seasons as the Busch Series champion. He has earned 17 career victories and 97 top-10 finishes in his Nextel Cup career, including a coveted victory in the 2004 Daytona 500. Dale Jr. is currently sixth in the Nextel Cup point standings with one victory and has 10 finishes of 12th or better in the first 14 races of the season.
