Taking a look at Chicagoland Speedway in the ol' rear-view mirror ...
Jeff Gordon was not overly apologetic about punting Matt Kenseth with just under four laps to go in Sunday's USG 400. Furthermore, Gordon pretty much said that if he's ever in a position to do something similar to Tony Stewart, that Stewart had better be ready for it. That sounds like a gauntlet being thrown down, doesn't it?
If what Gordon did to Kenseth had happened on Lap 75 last week at Daytona, do you have any doubt NASCAR would've penalized Gordon for rough driving? I don't.
NASCAR president Mike Helton reiterated the warning he'd given to Busch teams on Saturday at the Cup drivers' meeting, telling them that if teams think they can get away with pushing the limits on rules NASCAR is going to keep ramping up the fines. Forget that. If a car comes to the track and can't pass inspection, tell them to pack it up and go home. NASCAR would only have to do that one time.
Former Chicago Bulls forward Scottie Pippen was among the celebrities in attendance Sunday. But since Michael Jordan wasn't at the race, Pippen wasn't able to do anything that really mattered.
