RICHMOND, Va. - MB2 Motorsports general manager Jay Frye said Friday the organization is still trying to put together a third Nextel Cup team to run next season.
MB2 currently fields drivers Joe Nemechek and Sterling Marlin in Chevrolets.
“There is a chance we will expand next year. There is a possibility. You have to expand the right way. You just don’t go to four teams,” he said.
“Ideally, it would be to add one Cup team next year and bring our development team in-house. It’s getting close but it’s not too late to rule out expanding next season.”
The recent acquisition of majority ownership of MB2 by Bobby Ginn, president and founder of the Celebration, Fla.-based Ginn Resorts, has provided the team resources to expand its operation, Frye said.
