The Excitement Continues At Crossville's Raceway USA
By: Staff Reporter
Crossville, TN (June 3rd) - The excitement continued at Crossville's Raceway USA on Friday night, as perfect track conditions made for some great racing throughout the night. The Late Model's saw defending track champion #25 Lynn Selby and #93 Rylan Bowlin win the heat races. On the initial start of the twelve car feature race, #30 Gary Lively and #63 Anthony White got together coming out of turn two. White would take his machine to the pits and Lively would be able to continue. When the feature restarted, Bowlin jumped out front with Selby and #17 Brett Wyatt in tow. Bowlin extended his lead while Wyatt put the pressure on Selby for second. On lap seven, Bowlin brought out the caution, as he slapped the turn four wall, ending his night. This put Selby out front on the restart. Wyatt wasted little time in putting heavy pressure on Selby for the lead. Meanwhile #95 Brandon Williams and #5 Chris Wilson had made their way to the tird and fourth spots. A Selby slip in the corner allowed Wyatt to get by for the lead. Williams then powered by Selby for second, and Wilson made the pass by Selby a couple of laps later. Williams started putting heavy pressure on Wyatt, as he tried to duck under Wyatt for the lead. Wyatt continually held Williams off, as Wilson joined in on the action. As the laps counted down, Wyatt moved to the high groove of the track and put some distance between himself and Williams. #R95 Rick Williams made his way up to the fourth spot as he got by Selby. A lap twenty-eight caution, brought the field back together. Wilson experienced mechanical problems at this time and was forced pitside. Wyatt brought the field back to green, and again started running the high groove. With Williams running three to four car lengths back, it looked like Wyatt might take the win. Coming to take the white flag Wyatt jumped the cushion and gave Williams the break he needed. Williams got by Williams for the lead. The next corner Wyatt jumped the groove again and let Rick Williams slide by for second. Crossville's Brandon Williams went on to take another feature win, with father Rick finishing second. Wyatt would finish third, #74 Mark Rosner fourth, and #1611 John Vespie rounded out the top five.
In UMP Open Wheel action, Crossville drivers #49 Clayton Turner and #1 Joey Whittenburg won the heat races to put themselves on the front row of the feature. As the green flag flew on the twelve car field, Whittenburg jumped into the lead. Turner was running second, but was being pressured by #95 Shannon Emery and #37 Michael Asberry. Emery got by Turner for second, and Asberry did the same a few laps later. A caution came out as Asberry spun out in turn two on lap eight. Emery continued to put the pressure on Whittneburg. Asberrry was once again making his way through the field. Asberry found his way up to the top five again on lap fifteen. Whittenburg held off Emery for his first win of the year. Asberry finished third, #7 Thomas Lay fourth, and #m2 Mike Freeman finished fifth.
The Street Stocks saw Crossville's #15 Jason Adams win the feature, as he put a stop to #8 Trent Mullinax's win streak. #61 Marty Seney finished second, #11 Raymond Sheppard third, #99 Wesley Johnson fourth, and Mullinax finished fifth.
In Mini Stocks, McMinnville's #26 Jason Todd continued his early season hot streak, as he scored yet another feature win. #5 Scott Shelton finished second, #10 Tracy Treadway third, #8 Derrick Hutchings fourth, and #3R Robert Edwards rounded out the top five.
