FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Western KY Speedway readies for 1st UMP Late Model show of the 05 season!
Western Kentucky Speedway in Nebo, KY is busy preparing for the first UMP Late Model show of the 2005 season for the 3/8 mile speedplant. Late Models will be in action this Friday night for the $2,500 to win feature event.
WKS had scheduled a Northern All Stars Event in April but mother nature put a halt to the event. This will be the first visit to Western Kentucky Speedway for the UMP late models this year however, late models will be invading the speedway 2 more times this season. On August 26th the Stacker 2 World Of Outlaw Late Models will be making their first ever visit to the track and another event scheduled for late models on September 23rd.
This past week at Western KY Speedway saw Michael Coakley sweep the UMP Modified events being fast qualifier, winning the first of 2 heat races and holding off Clayton Miller in the feature. This makes 2 in a row for Coakley of Mortons Gap, KY in his WT Harris Chassis sponsored by Redline Distributing and Bennett & Sons Paving. Rounding out the top 5 in the mod feature was Josh Harris, Paul Miles and Ronnie Falloway.
Brad Brown of Owensboro, KY swept the pure Stock action this week picking up heat race number 3 and the feature holding off Brian Markham and Brad Barnett. This was an action packed event seeing a 8 to 10 car chain reaction wreck on the front stretch in the opening laps. All cars kept the dirty side down however several had the rear ends of the car on the hoods of the cars behind them. All drivers were able to walk away.
Mark Rowe of Beaver Dam, KY blew into town to run for the $1,000 to win Tommy Oldham Memorial event for the Street Stocks. Rowe set fast time in qualifying and picked up his heat win. The feature saw Rowe and Jason White of Maceo, KY on the front row. Rowe would jump out to a comfortable lead over White until the rains came. The event scheduled for 35 laps was shortened to 25 laps. As the white flag waved Rowe would come up on lap traffic in turn 1. This allowed Jason White to jump to the high side and motor past and come home for the win. White brought the GA Truck Repair, G&A Trucking, Cox Trucking and Fleet Services Monte Carlo to victory lane followed by Mark Rowe and Paul Miles.
Mother Nature forced the postponement of the Cruiser Feature event. The make up feature will be run this coming Friday night.
Friday night gates will open at 4pm with hot laps at 6pm and qualifying at 6:30pm. Racing is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm cst. Racing Friday night will be UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Street Stock, Pure Stock and double features for Cruisers.
Make plans now to visit the Coble Family 3/8 mile “Playground for Power” this Friday night! For further information visit the speedways web-site at www.wkracing.com
