Boggs Defeats The “Dirty Dozen” In World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series Action At KC Raceway!!!
Chillicothe (Alma),OH 6-18-05
Jackie Boggs of Grayson,KY slayed the dragon known as the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series “Dirty Dozen” Saturday at Jim Nier’s KC Raceway near Chillicothe,OH pocketing the $20,000 to win “Veterans Appreciation 100”. Starting from outside the front row aboard the McDonalds of Grayson/Miller Bros. Coal No. 4B Steve Cascio Racing Swartz Chassis Cropper Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Boggs tracked down early race leader Rick Eckert while working lap 13 with an inside pass in turn two to snare the lead which he would never give up. Boggs had to contend with Scott Bloomquist from lap 75 to lap 93 then held off Billy Moyer by a scant .176 seconds to secure the very popular victory. Bloomquist finished third after starting 13th with Eckert fourth and Mike Balzano fifth. Rounding out the top ten were 15th starting Dale McDowell in sixth trailed by Josh Richards, Chub Frank, Darrell Lanigan and Steve Francis.
“It was an awesome run”, stated the very happy winner from the YJ Stinger® Victory Lane. “The track locked down a little bit but it was real racy. We just tried to stay out of trouble and finish the race. I didn’t even take time to check the scoreboard to see who was running second. We just kept on hammering.”
When told that a blanket could’ve been thrown over the top three finishers as they crossed the start/finish line all Boggs could say was, “That must’ve been a good race for the fans anyway.”
Eckert and Boggs brought the 24 car field to the green flag with Eckert leading Boggs, Moyer, Richards and Balzano at the end of the first lap. The field raced all over the high-banked 3/8ths mile through the early portions of the race. Eckert held a slight lead on Boggs by lap 10 with Moyer, Richards and Balzano in a dogfight trailed by Rob Blair, Frank, Francis, Rod Conley and Lanigan. Eckert entered lapped traffic on lap 11 allowing Boggs to move in and challenge Eckert for the lead.
Completing lap 12 Eckert and Boggs rocketed into turn one with Eckert’s pushing slightly giving Boggs the room he needed to make the pass for the lead which turned out to be the winning pass. Boggs immediately began to open up some ground. By lap 20 the only change in the top 10 behind Boggs saw Bloomquist taking tenth. Two laps later, the defending World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series champion was up to ninth and looked to be the fastest car on the race track. The races only caution would wave on lap 27 when R.J. Conley rolled to a stop with a flat left rear tire.
The double-file restart saw Moyer work past Eckert for second with Balzano taking fourth from Richards and Bloomquist exploding into sixth. Bloomquist continued his run to the front snatching the fifth spot from Richards on lap 31. With 35 laps in the books Boggs enjoyed a comfortable margin with Moyer, Eckert, Balzano and Bloomquist trailing followed by Richards, Frank, Lanigan, Francis and Blair.
Bloomquist worked his way past Balzano on lap 40 for the fourth spot and one lap later Boggs was back in lapped traffic. Bloomquist grabbed third from Eckert at the halfway point and notched Moyer the next lap for the runner-up spot. With 40 laps to go Boggs enjoyed a nearly 2 second lead on Bloomquist but that was quickly whittled down by lap 65 with Bloomquist now 1 car length behind the leader. With three quarters of the race in the books Boggs held a slight advantage on Bloomquist with Moyer lurking in third followed by Eckert and Balzano. McDowell was now up to sixth followed by Richards, Frank, Lanigan and Francis.
Bloomquist kept the heat turned up on Boggs pulling to within half a car length by lap 85. With 10 laps to go Bloomquist was now on Boggs back bumper with Moyer right on Bloomquist. Bloomquist made a stab at Boggs entering turn one on lap 93 but couldn’t make the move work. It did allow Moyer to sneak underneath of Bloomquist in turn two and set sail for Boggs. With five laps to go Moyer was able to show the nose of his car to Boggs as the exited turn four but Boggs slammed the door allowing him to go on for the victory.
Bloomquist was somewhat satisfied with his third place showing staying strategy played a large part in his race plan. “I really was trying to pace myself. There was enough time. When we got up by Jackie we tried running the high line and I’d been running a little bit higher line than everyone had all evening and we were making time. You could run low, that’s where everybody was running at and we tried making something happen by running higher. We kept working it and then all of sudden we were losing ground when I was up high. Then I moved down and I feel if it wouldn’t have rubbered up it was our race. Turns one and two didn’t rubber up as much as turns three and four. I didn’t come here to run second so we gave one last shot and we lost a spot. So, I just got back in line and finished the race. I think it was pretty obvious early in the race when the track was still decent who had the fastest car here this weekend.”
A total of 39 drivers were on hand for the two-day $100,000 to win “Veterans Appreciation 100”. Mike Balzano set the quick time with a lap of 13.997 seconds at an average speed of 96.449mph. Heat races winner were Billy Moyer, Jackie Boggs, Josh Richards and Rick Eckert. Delmas Conley and Steve Shaver grabbed the “B” main wins while Eckert garnered the Pole Dash. A special non-point 15 lap Dash For Cash was held on opening night matching the fastest six “Dirty Dozen” drivers in time trials against the fastest six non-“Dirty Dozen” drivers from time trials. The $2,000 to win event was won by Josh Richards.
