LMS -- $200,000 Late Model Event April 21-22 at The Dirt Track
200,000 Colossal 100 Late Model Event To Open The Dirt Track's Season April 21-22
CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 6, 2006) - One of the richest purses in late model stock car racing will be up for grabs April 21-22 when The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway opens its seventh season with the inaugural Colossal 100.
Featuring total cash awards of $200,000, the richest event ever run at The Dirt Track will conclude with a 100-lap championship feature paying $50,000 to the winner. Thirty-six cars will take the green flag in the main event with each starter guaranteed at least $2,000.
"Colossal is a word used to describe something that elicits awe or taxes belief, and that's why it is a perfect name for this early-season late model spectacular," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "The late models have consistently presented the best racing at The Dirt Track and a $200,000 purse is sure to raise the level of competition, leaving both fans and competitors in awe."
Spread over two nights, the Friday portion of the Colossal 100 will feature group time trials and heat races. The top two finishers in each heat will secure a spot in the 100-lap finale and a draw will determine the starting line-up.
Saturday night's program begins with a driver autograph session and the on-track action includes at least two additional qualifying races prior to the main event. The Dirt Track's traditional late model format will be utilized, including the extremely popular double-file restarts where drivers can choose either the inside or outside line.
Two provisional starting spots in the 36-car feature field will be reserved for the drivers with the earliest pre-entry postmarks who do not make the main event through the preliminary races. The pre-entry deadline for the Colossal 100 is Feb. 10 and entry blanks can be downloaded from www.lowesmotorspeedway.com/colossalentry.pdf.
If purchased in advance, reserved tickets, good for both Friday and Saturday nights, are $49 for adults and $19 for children ages 12 and under.
Two-day pit passes are $60 in advance.
Tickets and pit passes can be purchased online at
