BEARS LAKE, Pa. -- The 2006 Volusia Speedway Park Speedweek got off to a great start for Chub Frank, known far and wide by his legion of fans as ‘Chubzilla’, on Tuesday as Chubzilla fought his way from the seventh starting spot to take the opening night dirt Late Model main event in convincing fashion. Chubzilla’s win came in a UMP sanctioned race. This was his second UMP win of the season so far. Chubzilla won driving his Lester Buildings, Corry Rubber, All Star Performance, Corry Laser, Slavic Corporation, Farr MotorSports, Custom Race Engines, Rocket Chassis #1*. Chubzilla will be gunning for the 2006 World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship this season.
After scoring the win in heat seven Chubzilla found himself starting seventh on the starting grid for the main event. By the end of the race Chubzilla found himself in victory lane.
“It was a good race track, it got a little moisture on the bottom,” explained Chubzilla in victory lane. “We actually went hard on tires on the outside and soft on the inside so that let us stick down on the bottom. I thought it gave it up when we got to second. I tried to go around the outside and three of them passed me. I didn’t even know who was leading (laughs) they were going by so fast and we were in traffic the whole time so I didn’t really know who was leading until we got back by (Darrell) Lanigan and them and the #4 car was leading. He slipped up a little bit and it was enough for us to get by.”
“This is a good start for the week. We didn’t get to run last night because of the cold weather, it was a little cold tonight but it’s supposed to warm up later this week. The track is in really good shape and for the rest of the week it should be good. Tonight was a tire deal but I don’t think that will happen the rest of the week.”
Chubzilla will compete through Saturday (February 15-18) at Volusia Speedway Park for World of Outlaws Late Model Series and UMP races.
