DUQUOIN, Ill. -- The CARS Crate Model Sanctioning Body exercised its motor claim rule this past Saturday night (4-8-06) at The Mt. Vernon Speedway, Mt. Vernon, IL. Jeff Walston (4 Feature wins in 2006 and current points leader) cooperated with the CARS tech officials and surrended his 604 motor to the CARS tech staff. Walston received a 604 replacement (new) motor on Monday(4-10-06). CARS had their GM approved tech perform tear down on Walstons motor.
This motor claim is a routine practice which will be used as a preventative measure to police adherence to crate motor rules.
CARS had no specific belief that Walstons motor was illegal. Our sanction claim was performed now and will be in the future to protect our members and ensure a level playing field for all members.
After the inspection of Jeff Walston's motor it was determined that the motor is in fact legal. All parts and specs were in accordance with GMs and the crate model rules.
We would like to thank Jeff and crew for their cooperation. We know these motor claims can be a hardship but are necessary to ensure an even playing field in the class. CARS will publish the results of all future tear down results.
Good luck to Jeff Walston and all the CARS racers.
