Fans attending the Circle K Colossal 100 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway might see a familiar face.
Nextel Cup driver Mark Martin won't drive the car, but his face will be on one of as many as 160 cars entered in the two-day event for dirt late model and super late model cars at the four-tenths mile clay oval.
Jared Landers will drive the No. 06, which Martin's Ford dealership in his hometown of Batesville, Ark., sponsors. Landers' father, Lance, is Martin's partner in that dealership.
"He's young, he's aggressive, he has a lot of talent and he's got a cool-looking car," Martin said.
Martin plans to drive the car on June 7 when he visits Tony Stewart's track, Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, to participate in the special "Prelude to the Dream" race.
The Colossal 100 has a $200,000 purse, making it the richest event in the seven-year history of The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway. Each of 36 teams in the finale on Saturday will win at least $2,000. The winner will get $50,000.
That kind of purse has cars coming in from all over the country. Scott Bloomquist, Donnie Moran, Billy Moyer, Steve Francis, Tim McCreadie, Earl Pearson Jr., Chub Frank and Dale McDowell are expected.
Heat races will begin Friday at 8:30, followed by live music. There will be an autograph session at 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by last-chance races at 6:30. Preliminary features will begin at 7:30 with the 100-lap A main feature scheduled for 10:15 p.m.
Fans can today still get a reserved ticket for both Friday and Saturday nights for $49 for adults and $19 for children ages 12 and younger. Call (800) 455-3267 or visit lowesmotorspeedway.com.
