San Antonio Speedway to host $1,000-to-win Enduro
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Rick Day, General Manager of San Antonio Speedway, has announced that the speedway will be hosting a huge $1,000-to-win, 100-lap Enduro on Saturday, March 18, 2006. The Enduro will immediately follow the opening night for the regular NASCAR Weekly Racing Series stock car racing program at the half-mile, high-banked oval just south of San Antonio.
The Enduro, a long-anticipated event that has been rained out or postponed since last season – will feature “Grand Stock” type stock cars and others specially built for the occasion. A Grand Stock car is a basic 110-inch wheel base vehicle with a few safety modifications for the driver’s protection. “It’s just like the car your mother-in-law drives to the grocery store,” stated Terry Dickerson CEO of San Antonio Speedway. He also added, “It’s easy and economical to get a car ready for this event. Then the same car can be run weekly at San Antonio Speedway in our weekly NASCAR Grand Stock Division.”
“We’ve had a lot of interest in this race,” Day said. “Usually Enduro races are held as stand-alone events in front of a few spectators and family members. But this one is different since it will be run immediately following our big NASCAR Weekly Racing Series opening night.”
“For this Enduro, we will be following our San Antonio Speedway Grand Stock rules,” Day continued. “Interested drivers can find a set of Grand Stock rules and a registration form on the San Antonio Speedway website. There will be a $50 entry fee, and the top ten finishers will win at least $100 in prize money.
San Antonio Speedway is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on Texas Highway 16 towards Poteet. The San Antonio Speedway website can be found at www.sanantoniospeedway.com.
